> A service calls and reads the code out instead of sending an SMS? How to get that code on a virtual number: the Voice type in Hush SMS, how it differs from SMS and call, price and refunds.

In short

Some services confirm a number with a call instead of an SMS: a robot calls and reads out the code. For these cases Hush SMS has the Voice number type. Buy a Voice number in the bot [@HushNumBot](https://t.me/HushNumBot?start=landing) or in the [web account](https://hush-sms.com/account/?lang=en), choose "Call me" on the service's page, and the code appears in your order as text: you do not need to listen to anything. If no code arrives, the money returns to your balance.

A regular virtual number for SMS receives only messages. If a service decides to call, the call never reaches such a number and the code is lost. A Voice number takes the call, recognises the digits that were read out and shows them in your order, just like a code from an SMS.

## When a service reads the code out

Most often in three cases:

- the SMS did not arrive and the service offers a backup: buttons like "Call me" or "Get the code by phone";
- the service picks a call by itself for numbers of some countries or carriers;
- a call is offered as a separate way to confirm, next to SMS.

The robot says the digits of the code and often repeats them. A person would write the code down by ear; for a virtual number the speech has to be recognised. That is what the Voice type does.

## SMS, call or voice: which to choose

A number in Hush SMS has one of three types. They differ in how the service sends the code and what you see in the order.

| Type | How the code arrives and when to choose it |
| --- | --- |
| SMS | The code comes in a message and we show it in the order. Choose it when the service sends an SMS: it is the cheapest option with the most countries. |
| Call + SMS | The service calls or sends an SMS, and we show the code or the caller's number. Choose it when the service says "We will call you, enter the last digits of the number". |
| Voice | A robot calls and reads out the code, and we show it as text. Choose it when the service says "We will call and read out the code", or you press "Call me". |

If you are not sure, start with SMS: it is cheaper, and most services send the code in a message. Voice is for when the service clearly offers a call with a code.

## How to get a voice code in 4 steps

1. Choose the service. In the bot [@HushNumBot](https://t.me/HushNumBot?start=landing), press "Voice" above the list of countries. On the website, open "Buy a number" in the [web account](https://hush-sms.com/account/?lang=en) and the Voice tab. If there is no Voice button, this service has no voice numbers yet.
2. Pick a country and pay for the number. The price is shown before you pay.
3. Paste the number into the service's form with the country code and choose to get the code by phone: "Call me", "Get the code by phone" or a similar button.
4. Wait for the call. Shortly after it, the code appears in your order as text, both in the bot and on the website.

## What you see in the order

Usually just the code itself, for example 482716: we find the digits in the robot's speech. If the digits cannot be made out, we show the whole transcript of the call so you can read the code there. There is no recording of the call; we pass on only the text.

If the service sends a regular SMS to this number after all, the code from it appears in the order too.

## Price and availability

As of November 3, 2026, voice numbers are available for 291 services in 8 countries: Vietnam, Italy, Croatia, Denmark, Greece, the Netherlands, Czechia and Poland. The services include Telegram, Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Apple, PayPal, Amazon and VK. WhatsApp has only SMS and Call + SMS for now.

A voice number usually costs from $0.69. It costs more than SMS because there are fewer such numbers. The exact price for each country is shown in the catalog before you pay, and the [price table](https://hush-sms.com/en/prices/) shows which services have voice.

## If the code does not arrive

A voice number waits for the call for a limited time, usually 20 minutes. The exact time is shown in the order. If no call comes:

- check that you chose a call, not an SMS, on the service's website;
- do not request the call many times in a row: the service may limit the number for a while;
- cancel the order if you no longer need the code. You can do that 2 minutes after buying, while no code has arrived.

If the time runs out without a code, the order closes by itself. Either way, the money returns to your balance once the provider confirms the cancellation. The general checklist is in [SMS code not received](https://hush-sms.com/en/blog/sms-code-not-received/).

You cannot get a second code on the same voice number: such orders have no "Another SMS" button. If you need a new code, buy a new number.

## Voice codes through the API

For automation, set `"verification_type": "voice"`. `GET /v1/services/{code}/countries?verification_type=voice` returns countries, prices and the number of available numbers, and `POST /v1/numbers` buys a number. The code arrives as text in the order's `sms_codes`, like a regular SMS code. Details are in the [API documentation](https://docs.hush-sms.com/en/#voice-code).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I listen to the call?

No. We have no recording of the call: the order shows only the recognised code or the text of the transcript.

### How is Voice different from Call + SMS?

With Call + SMS a service often confirms the number with the call itself, and the digits you need are hidden in the caller's number: we show that number. With Voice a robot reads out the code, and we show it as text.

### What if the service sends an SMS instead of calling?

The code from the SMS appears in the order too.

### Do I get my money back if no call came?

Yes. Cancel the order 2 minutes after buying or wait until it expires: the money returns to your balance once the provider confirms the cancellation.

### Why does a voice number cost more than SMS?

There are fewer voice numbers, and providers sell them at a higher price. If the service sends the code by SMS, a regular number is cheaper.

Voice codes in the bot and on the website. If no code arrives, the money returns to your balance.
